"Several times the audience
roared to its feet after a song"

Doc's Review: I saw Brooklyn when it was in Denver, CO the summer of 2003 before it went to Broadway. I went not knowing what to expect. All I'd heard was the set was made out of garbage. That sounded interesing.

I was blown away. The set WAS interesting with the different ways the garbage was used and re-used to create different scenes. This was especially cute when the shop light was moved around, or when the cast spray painted on the plastic.

But what really blew me away was the music and the performances of the singers in the cast. Each and every cast member can and did offer show-stopping power when they sang. Several times the audience roared to its feet after a song.

I walked away from the theater that day humming some of the tunes I'd just heard for the first time, and saying to my friend: "This musical is going to be HUGE." It was perhaps the best musical I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot.
