"Goosebumps for 15 minutes straight"
My first Brooklyn experience was at Bryant Park this summer. When Brooklyn started, it took my breath away. As a performer you can't wait for that next thing to move or inspire you. The entire set was like that for me. Goosebumps for 15 minutes straight.
I still didn\t know exactly how this wonderful music fit in the context of the show. So, I got 2 tickets for the second day of previews. After seeing the show, I felt as though I had just viewed a historic musical moment. The songs were coming to life in the story better than I had imagined. The work of every singer and musician was luminescent. The way I, myself, related to the character of Brooklyn... the struggle with her father, the searching and finding herself and having music grow from this empty dark place. So, I did what anyone else would do with this jult of inspiration. I bought 7 more tickets, took some friends, spread the word, read every article, and crossed my fingers that this show would live on for my generation to see.
The writers are amazing, directors are true visionaries, and the performers... compelling. This show is the best thing that's happened to Broadway and brings theatre back to a place where talent perseveres and is the core of every part of the show. After all, isn't that what Broadway should be about? Pure talent. |
