"I had to run home and send an email to all my theater friends"

Scot's Review: Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Scot, and I am an actor based here in NYC. I was recently at a Broadway audition and was in the warm up room chatting with some fellow performers about Brooklyn The Musical. We were all getting ready to see the show in the coming weeks. We had all heard the hype about the show. Hype scares me, for what most people consider grandiose and magical, I simply do not.

Last night I experienced something magical. I went to see Brooklyn The Musical on Broadway. My friends always say that I am way too critical when it comes to shows. I have seen just about every single production here in NYC, both Broadway and off. All too often I leave a show feeling somewhat fulfilled, but not overjoyed.

Last night I left Brooklyn with a feeling that is somewhat hard to put into words. I had to run home and send an email out to all my affluent theater friends, many of whom are on Broadway right now. I have not seen a show in a very long time that is vocally as stellar as Brooklyn. There are only five people in the cast, no major set changes, and yet; it has to be one of the best shows I have seen in a very long time. Sometimes, simplicity is best.

You know a show is powerful when it has you laughing one song and crying the next. My hats are off to everyone in the cast, for I know how vocally demanding eight shows a week can be. I don’t want to jinx anything, but I will see you all at the Tony’s. BRAVO! BRAVO!
