Where they found out about Brooklyn : acquaintance of Jeff Calhoun

Review: It truly is quite refreshing to see such a unique and innovative show on Broadway. I spent over two weeks in New York City during an internship and saw over 10 different shows, none of which truly compared to Brooklyn . Director Jeff Calhoun was even kind enough to give our group a tour of the theatre and speak with us for a few minutes; what a genuine person. Seldom do people appreciate simplistic tactics and ideas in Broadway shows. Too often, it is what is overblown that is looked at as being "amazing" or "innovative". Every director should stop and take notice of Jeff Calhoun . Fresh off his brilliant and groundbreaking work with Big River , Calhoun has done it again. Who would've ever thought that everyday trash could become such beautiful artwork and scenery. And how often do you get to see actors performing all of their onstage technical scene changes, and other miscellaneous tasks? Brooklyn really has heart. Most importantly, it reminded me, and contiunes to everyday, to appreciate all of the blessings I have received. I believe that everyone who comes to see Brooklyn will be humbled and will want to somehow improve their life. This show speaks to the common person in many ways. It is entertaining, stunning, heartbreaking, moving, emotional, and real. It would be a shame to see Brooklyn ignored at this year's Tony awards. Broadway is truly ready for a new show, an original show, a show with a great background to it. Hopefully, as a result, Brooklyn will continue to run for quite sometime, in hopes that people come to truly appreciate life and theatre for all its worth.

Where they found out about Brooklyn : Online

Review: I saw Brooklyn for my first time months of anticipation this past week. After the show finished, I got into the car with my dad, sat back, got tears in my eyes, and turned to him and said, "Wow, that is what I want to do, that is why I sing!" The music and the story tells of hope, courage, determination, and dreaming, and I think that everyone should have the chance to have that message sent to their hearts!

The talent, the voices, the messages make Brooklyn difficult to explain in words... GO SEE IT! I can't stop listening to the soundtrack and would love to see Brooklyn again in a second. Love It!!!!

Where they found out about Brooklyn : friends

Review: I saw Brooklyn in its opening weekend, and since then i have seen it four times. Brooklyn is possibly the most amazing new show on Broadway today. The music is unbelievably catchy and the acting is top notch. Although both the costumes and sets are the most inventive and amazing pieces I have ever seen on the Broadway stage, it is the actor's voices that allow Brooklyn to soar. Eden Espinosa is utterly incredible as the lead. Her voice surpasses anyone's I have ever heard, belting notes that I didn't even know existed. How this is her first starring role, aside from Wicked, is beyond me. Ramona Keller, who I first saw in Caroline or Change, is also fantastic as the misunderstood Paradice. Her voice is amazing and her acting skills are undeniable. The final member of the female ensemble is the incomparable Karen Olivo. Although her role is not as large as the prior two, Karen adds life to the show and sings her solos with the most beautiful and powerful voice I have ever heard. Cleavant Derricks and Kevin Anderson are also at the top of their game. With all of this, Brooklyn is a show not to be missed by anyone with an affinity towards Broadway!

Where they found out about Brooklyn : friends

Review: I am a 13 year old girl with a great love for theatre. One day my mom, brother and a group of friends wanted to go see a Broadway Show together. We were going to see Rent but when there were no tickets Brooklyn was what we decided on seeing. As I got into the theatre i sat with my friends and the parents sat behind us. As the show began i felt like this show was going to be absolutely amazing! As the song Once Upon A time came on i felt speechless !! i turned around and gave my mom a double thumbs up. As i was watching the show i felt like i had a big comparison with what was going on. Problems in the world today are very hard but with help from everyone you never know what could happen. After the show we got chance to meet the cast. They were the nicest people and actually took time to talk to us about there experience. They must have been the nicest people ever. I always ask my mom if we could go see Brooklyn again and she said soon. This was one of the best experiences of my life!

Where they found out about Brooklyn : When I bought tickets to it

Review: This was an unexpectedly outstanding experience. We bought tickets at the TKTS at half price and really did not know what we were getting (pot luck). Well talk about lucky! The music, props acting and all things theatrical were mind blowing enough - but to get a social commentary on the USA, its extremes of poverty and wealth, the disposable and throw away society that western nations have become and how detached western society is from community were added bonuses. A show with spirit and heart - a message for our society and no doubt the beginning of careers for some of the performers. Congratulationms and God Bless.

Where they found out about Brooklyn: From a friend while I was visiting New York

Review: Brooklyn is the best musical ever!!! I love musical theatre and that's why I traveled to NYC: to take some clessons and watch lots of shows.. A friend told me about this musical and I went without knowing much about it. When I was watching the show I couldn't believe what I saw and heard!! It was the most wonderful show in the world! It was very moving and I cried during "once upon a time".. I couldn't believe what I was seeing for there was so much talent on stage!! After the show I got to talk with the director, writer and actors, they are all so nice!!! I realized that this great show has also great people!! I went once again and I will go a third time before leaving back home.. I am actually going to see the show on the day of my birthday, to celebrate in the best way!! Thanks " Brooklyn " for making me so happy and for encouraging me to continue studying what I love!!

Where they found out about Brooklyn : Walked by the theatre

Review: I saw Eden Espinosa as Elphaba in Wicked, and she was fantastic. When I walked past the Plymouth theatre (where I actually used to work, selling programs for Bells Are Ringing) and I saw that Eden was in Brooklyn , I knew I had to see it. I saw the show from the front row when it was in previews, and I was in awe. The music is phenomenal, and the singing is unbelievable. I hear a lot of singers, and I am very impressed by each of the actors in this show. I hope that I can work with them someday. I was lucky enough to attend the cast recording of the show and loved it. It's SO refreshing to see a new musical that is its own original idea. It's not based on a book, a movie, or just a compilation of already famous pop songs. What a great show!!!

Where they found out about Brooklyn: In June I saw Eden Espinosa in Wicked, then I read a few days later that she was going to be in Brooklyn .

Review: I first saw Brooklyn on November 10th 2004 . I wanted to see the play from the first time I herd about it, so I bought my tickets back in August (around the time they first became available). Finally after 3 months of waiting and listening to the 4 CD sampler I finally got to see it ... and it was amazing, I instantly fell in love with it. Then when the soundtrack came out I bought it and re-fell in love with the play. I played the soundtrack for my friends and the loved it too. My friend Melissa and I did "Love me where I live" for a talent contest at a party I was having. Then in January, after countless hours of listening to the soundtrack I brought my friends to see Brooklyn . The second time was more magical then the first time, I was mouthing the words in my seat and trying so hard not to sing along. Afterwards we met the director and he personalized my program and talked to us (he was so nice and it really added to the experience of Brooklyn ). I recommend this play to everyone and I cannot wait to return and see it again.

Where they found out about Brooklyn : Word of mouth

Review: This was the first time I had been in a theatre and the experience knocked me sideways .I was visiting a cousin in New York who is a theatre critic who advised me to see the show. I loved every moment , the cast are exceptionlly hard working , talented individuals who have the ability to entertain at a high level . Yes , I`m hooked , I went out bought the soundtrack , which I`ll probably wear out , then nbuy again , it is that good. Seeing a show on Broadway was one of my ambitions in life , the fact that it was Brooklyn rather than any other made it exremely special to me .What a great night

Where they found out about Brooklyn: When I saw Eden singing on Broadway on Broadway

Review: I had never been to or seen a Broadway show and had never been to New York City . But as soon as I heard about Brooklyn and saw Eden perform Once upon a Time I knew I was going to make this my first trip to New York . And I was not dissapointed. My daughter and I saw the show on Jan 4th and enjoyed the show so much we saw it again on Jan 5th. Eden was phenomenonal, there are not many artist or singers who touch me down to my soul. I don't think that I have stopped smiling yet and to experience this with my 16 year old daughter made it even better. Anyone who has a chance to see this show please go see it. You will have the time of your life. Metting Eden after both shows was the best. She is the nicest, sweetest most down to earthperson. My daughter bought Eden a bracelet with her name on it. And Jaime was so excited when Eden told her how much she liked it and then put the bracelet on. So thank you Eden and the whole cast of Brooklyn for making our first trip to New York something my daughter and I will never ever, ever forget. Thank you again, Debbie Garner

Where they found out about Brooklyn : Walking by it in NYC.

Review: Well.... wow. I went and saw Brooklyn over Thankgiving, so I got a signed poster by everyone, because, yes, it was that awesome. I went to NY expecting to see Wicked, Dracula, and The Producers. I happened to be walking down 45th, to go to the Avenue Q theatre, to enter the lottery. I saw Brooklyn , and while listening to the music outside, I thought it was a little bit of a cheap show (that's a good thing, sometimes) which reminded me of Urinetown. Well, I didn't think much of it. I went down to Avenue Q's theatre, and the lottery wasn't happening that day, even though it said it was on the paper. So I was walking back, and as I was walking by your theatre, I looked at the doors and WHOA! Eden Espinosa! I knew that name! It just so happened that my brother went to NY and saw Eden 's first performance as Elphaba in Wicked, and said she was phenomenal. Well, I immediately thought "I need tickets to this show." I walked in, and the best seats were *gasp* in Row D, on the left side, and so much happened on the left side, so I'm happy I got that. As for Brooklyn ..... wow. My thespian troupe (I can't quite call it that yet) is going on a trip to NY next school year, so you can bet I will highly recommend Brooklyn . The most amazing part of the show for me, was not the voclas, costumes, or anything generic (though both are amazing). It is the blocking. The way that someone is doing something with the set all the time, and people sprinkle down "snow" and the pulley was used for so many different things, and Brooklyn putting on the Once Upon A Time tarp (part of it) as a dress. Just wow. Then I went back and recommended it to my friend Kristy, who's review is already on here. I am hoping to do Brooklyn Grew Up or Once Upon A Time for Individual Events next year! I must say, as good as the whole cast is, Eden steals the show.

Review: Well, there aren't words to describe the wonderful experience I had at the show. It was, for lack of a better word, breath taking and beautiful. I thought that the cast were so full of energy and you can tell that they love what they are doing and truly love the show. I want to see it again so bad because I give it two thumbs way up, and a standing ovation... Brooklyn , in my oppinon, is going to be the next big thing!

Where they found out about Brooklyn : My friend

Review: I had first heard about BKLYN in June when I saw Eden as Elphaba. My friend told me that if I liked Eden , I had to like BKLYN, which was true. So I was finally able to see the show on January 9. BKLYN has to be one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen. Its a beautiful story told by some amazing people. There were points in the show where I couldn't applaud because I was so numb with amazment that I couldn't move. This is one show that I know I will be returning to New York to see again..and again.

Where they found out about Brooklyn : Pamplet outside the Ticket Booth

Review: I saw Wicked the night before, and to be honest, my expectations for Brooklyn the Musical wasn't high at all. BUT, my I say, I was totally blown away by the ENITRE production! Everything (music, acting, costume design, set, etc.) was phenomenal! You really need to beef-up the promotion of this musical, because the word is not out yet, and you truly have a winner here. This show truly moved me, and I will recommend it to all of my friends and colleagues!
