Where they found out about Brooklyn : at TKTK, a guy in a beret telling others about this great story

Review: This old quirky beret guy at TKTS was telling people about " Brooklyn the musical". All 4 of us listened to his enthuastic story. His passion and confidence in this Broadway play was contagious. So we went to " Brooklyn " instead. WOW WAS HE RIGHT!!!! We spent 2 days in New York and saw your play 2 times, the 'once upon a time' is a great song sung perfectly! Streetsinger song reminded me of my choir practices as a kid ....'and the changes for you are coming soon' Salvation Armini!!!! HA!! The costumes were cool and funny. We're planning another road trip to NY, on Spring Break and we will see it again and again. Thanks for a GREAT MEMORY!!!!!

Where they found out about Brooklyn : from John McDaniel

Review: I traveled from Salt Lake City to New York just to see Brooklyn and it was worth the trip and so much more. I can honestly say that Brooklyn is the first play I've ever seen where I didn't want ot to ever end. It was amazing frmo start to finish and I loved everything about it. The costumes, the beautiful story, and especially the music. Thinking about how touching and fabulous the music was still brings tears to my eyes. Brooklyn leaves you believing in yourself again and wanting to go back into the world making a difference. I would tell anyone to go see it. I can't wait to someday be able to see it again.

Where they found out about Brooklyn : I did my research :)

Review: I was looking up online "new musicals coming out this season." And BKLYN came up, so I did my research downloaded a few songs and I was hooked! Eden 's voice kicked butt! And I knew her from Wicked. And then of course everyone else (Cleavant, Ramona, Kevin, and Karen) were incredible as well. I haven't seen the show yet, but I know tohse who have and they rave about it. BKLYN ROCKS!

Where they found out about Brooklyn : From my friend

Review: When I first found out about " Brooklyn ", I asked my friend to tell me more about it. When she described it, I knew I just HAD to see the show. It sounded so good! So, about 2 weeks ago, I found out my high school had tickets, and was looking for interested students. Of course, I signed up to go on Tuesday November 9th. After the show, I was just amazed. The only down side was the fact that my voice was hoarse from all the cheering I did. If I was asked to sum up how I enjoyed the show in one word, I would not be able to do so. It had to be one of the best shows I've seen! Eden , Ramona, Karen, Cleavant, and Kevin were all so amazing - thanks guys, for giving me such a remarkable experience!

Where they found out about Brooklyn : theatre goers

Review: OK I've been hearing that BRKLYN is getting bad reviews and all I have to say is DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM!!!!!!!!! I saw Brooklyn on OCT22nd and it was one of the ebst shows I have ever scene, it is so uniqqly done. And if you jsut listen to "once upon a time" you can already tell why it's one of the best shows. The talent on that stage outshined the talent on the Gerswhin Theatre stage. To the cast of BRKLYN all I have to say is Bravo to you if all is right in the world every single one of you better be nominated for a Tony Award. Thanks for a great show I hope i get to see it again.

Where they found out about Brooklyn : I found out about it after I saw Eden Espinosa in Wicked. I immediately looked at what she would be doing next and thats when I found out about Brooklyn .

Review: Brooklyn is such an inspiration for me! I saw Eden Espinosa in Wicked and I was so amazed by her talented that I immediately looked into what she would be performing in next. I found out that it was BKLYN. From the second I heard the music on the site I fell in love. The music and lyrics are SO inspirational and heart warming. This is one Broadway show that truly touches your heart and makes you feel so many different emotions. Its makes you laugh AND cry and you can relate to different parts in many ways. I came with my best friend, my mom, and my aunt and we were all in awe of the talent on the stage and the incredible story. BKLYN is truly amazing and its one show nobody can miss! I can't wait to see it again!

Where they found out about Brooklyn : Broadway on Broadway

Review: Saw " Brooklyn " on October 9th, with my husband & 3 children (daughter 12 yrs. old & twin sons 8 yrs. old). We all loved the play...in fact, the children say it is their favorite of all time! They laughed at the jokes, were sad during the sad scenes, & bounced to the music. We were in awe by the music & singing...the actors singing voices were so beautiful, I was moved to tears. After the show we went to the stagedoor to meet the actors, all the actors were so kind & very generous with their time. Eden Espinosa was so sweet, she seemed really tickled to hear that my children really enjoyed " Brooklyn ". Same with Ramona Keller...one twin told her that "the garbage bag dress" was his favorite & the other twin told Ramona he thought "She was awesome!"...which made her (& the other fans) giggle! We play the CD sampler everyday & the kids have each chosen their favorite character & sing along. We enjoyed " Brooklyn " so very much & are talking about going to see it a second time!

Where they found out about Brooklyn : a friend

Review: November 5, 2004 There are no coincidences.. your story is almost like mine. From homeless to productive human being. Please read. Back in September a friend took me to see BKLYN the Musical. I had no idea what this show was about. I use to live in Brooklyn , that was enough for me. I laughed, cried, screamed and cheered. I felt soooo many feelings, it was scary yet highly exhilarating. For the first time in a very, very long time I felt full of life and hope. I spent most of my life totally numb due to drugs and alcohol. There was no hope in my life and definitely no light. Ages 9 thru 34 were spent in and out of institutions, nut houses including Bellevue due to over doses and suicide attempts (intentional & unintentional). I was homeless in Manhattan with no responsibilities. I lost my job at Seventeen Magazine, lost my midtown apartment along with all my possessions. I was in & out of emergency rooms all along First Avenue to the point where nurses knew me by name. Somebody must think totally that I'm pretty special. Mostly cause I'm alive. After eighteen years sobriety, I have an apartment, a job I'm grateful to complain about and food in my belly. But you know, life still sucks big time. Living paycheck-to-paycheck, borrowing money all the time to pay bills & rent and sometimes I'm hungry. Believe me I am grateful for everything I have today, but some days, weeks, months are harder than others. Sometimes it really sucks to be me, but I guess someone has to be me. When I saw BKLYN I suddenly felt revived & full of life, hope and a willingness to trudge on. I have the BKLYN sample CD & I play it over and over and over. I love it to pieces. Some day I hope to be able to see BKLYN again and take my Mom with me. I was explaining to my friend how I sometimes still feel way down & out sometimes even hopeless. He then told me about seeing Marc & Barri on TV and hearing your story. I felt deep down inside that I just had to write you. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for the hope, life, courage and strength to face life on life's terms. I may not have everything I want but today I have everything I need. I so want to see BKLYN again and again which totally out of reach for me now. But I am very grateful to have seen it once. Thank you & God Bless you. Sincerely, Georgina Acre

Review: My husband and I were at the opening night performance. The voices were unbeliveable! The costumes are made of trash anyone could find in the streets and it works so well. I think having no intermission really worked well to keep the audience into the story. Outstanding production! Wonderful cast! We loved Brooklyn !

Where they found out about Brooklyn: I read about Brooklyn last summer and have received your newletters ever since.

Review: We were disappointed to read the local reviews of Brooklyn , knowing that we had tickets for the following weekend. Boy, were the reviews wrong. There were 4 of the best voices on Broadway waiting to WOW us. And they did!!! How does one have enough air in them to sing a song like "Raven"? The CD sampler doesn't come close to the real thing. The sets and costumes were very creative. The talent of Broadway really shines here. I've been spreading the word all week about the show. Best Wishes for a long run.

Where they found out about Brooklyn : Early spring 2004

Review: Ever since the moment i found out that this musical was coming to Broadway, I waited with anticipation for the box office to finally open to purchase my tickets. I knew this show had to be awesome because of the taste of music i heard through the cd sampler ( I mean, the talent that comes from the 5 amazingly talented people that grace the Plymouth theatre stage every night, i don't have the right words to describe how i feel when i hear the music... I'm speechless) , from the creative sneak peek of costume sketches and the heartwarming story of the journey of Mark and Barri of writing this show. This site has been such a great resource to learning about the show. Finally i got my tickets for sept 24th ( the 2nd day of previews) and the video diaries made me even more anxious to sit in my 4th row seat and see this show. Well, I've seen a lot of Broadway shows in the past 10 years since my first Broadway show when i was 8, and this was like no other than I've ever seen. I couldn't really explain what i was feeling while i was watching. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and found myself dancing in my seat, wiping some tears from my cheeks from time to time, just trying to take it all in. The cast gave off such a warm welcoming vibe from the minute they stepped out onto the stage, and the same throughout the whole show. I love the messages that are portrayed through the show and the themes that are repeated. After the show i was just blown away and so overtaken by everything i just witnessed, i just wanted to stay glued to my seat. Honestly it was the best 90 minutes of Broadway i had ever seen, you cant get that anywhere else. Meeting Mark and Barri was the greatest thing. Still speechless and awe stricken i had no idea what to say to them. I had met Eden before, when i saw her as elphaba twice In Wicked, and meeting her again and the rest of the cast, it was just such a great experience. They were all so kind and appreciated the feedback to the show. I never know what to say, so i make cards and drawings. Everyone that I have met that is involved with the show has been so kind to me. I had bought a shirt that night and wore it to the next day of school and spread the word of bklyn. Friends that I had made from other stage door experiences, we're now really close friends. We don't let distance put a hinder to our friendship and take advantage to every moment we get to see each other. Well, the 5 of us i would say that we were the first real fans of bklyn. We all saw the show oct 2nd.. and well you can call us crazy but we even dressed up like the characters of the show for Halloween and had a blast making the costumes. Having seen the show 3 times and met the cast multiple times, ive had unforgettable experiences that i will never forget. So yes, we are and i am a huge fan of bklyn and will continue to support the show 100% x's a lifetime because this show deserves to be recognized and everyone needs bklyn in there blood, so don't let an opportunity to see bklyn pass you by.... -love and bklyn <3 Amanda aka " the tall one"

Where they found out about Brooklyn: Denver, CO from the woman I dated at the time

Review: I saw Brooklyn when it was in Denver , CO the summer of 2003 before it went to Broadway. I went not knowing what to expect. All I'd heard was the set was made out of garbage. That sounded interesing. I was blown away. The set WAS interesting with the different ways the garbage was used and re-used to create different scenes. This was especially cute when the shop light was moved around, or when the cast spray painted on the plastic. But what really blew me away was the music and the performances of the singers in the cast. Each and every cast member can and did offer show-stopping power when they sang. Several times the audience roared to its feet after a song. I walked away from the theater that day humming some of the tunes I'd just heard for the first time, and saying to my friend: "This musical is going to be HUGE." It was perhaps the best musical I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot.

Where they found out about Brooklyn : The Website

Review: Meeting the movers and shakers of 'Brooklyn' Published in the Home News Tribune 11/10/04 By MATT RICHARDS WEST WINDSOR-PLAINSBORO HIGH SCHOOL SOUTH A few weeks ago, my family and I ventured into New York City to see a new musical that had just opened, " Brooklyn ." Being somewhat obsessive about musicals, I always read up on new shows long before they open. I had been visiting the Web site for "Brooklyn The Musical" for months, and had downloaded the four songs that were offered. My first opinion of the songs was that they were stunning, and I could not wait to see the show. When I arrived at the theater, I noticed that Edie Falco, the star of HBO'S "The Sopranos," was in a show next door -- and I decided to wait by that stage door to try to meet her. My father was near me, and he decided to wait by the " Brooklyn " stage door. When Eden Espinosa, one of the stars of " Brooklyn " came by, he asked her to wait one second, and promptly called me down the street. My first impression of Espinosa was that she was the sweetest person in the world, as she was very friendly -- even waiting for me to walk down the street so I could take a picture with her. I also took a picture with Karen Olivo, one of the other stars of the show. A woman noticed that I was taking pictures with the cast, and told me that if I wanted to take a picture with the director, he was "over there," and that "he's my son." My father and I got into a conversation with her, and eventually the director, Jeff Calhoun , came over and started talking to us. Calhoun is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and was very friendly. Of course, I had an uncontrollable mouth, and started spitting off every little thing I knew about the show. He seemed impressed with my knowledge -- and asked me what I was doing Monday. Upon asking why, he said the actors were going to be recording the cast album in front of an audience of 100. I graciously accepted the offer. Before I went into the theater, I also met Mark Schoenfeld and Barri McPherson, who created the show. They are truly the most genuine people you will ever meet in your life, and are very appreciative when they find someone like me who can't get enough of their show. In fact, after the show, Schoenfeld sought me out to ask me if I liked it. After the show, I also got to take my picture with Ramona Keller, another one of the " Brooklyn " stars. When I went home, I could not wait for Monday to come. When the day finally approached (I went on a Saturday, so Monday was a two-day wait!), I was extremely excited. We had to be at the studio by 6:45 p.m. , so we left on a 5 p.m. train, and as soon as we got into New York , we headed over to the studio. Right Track Studios is one of the most famous in New York City , and has produced some of the best Broadway recordings, including "Wicked" and "Rent." To get up to the studio, we had to wait in line. There were about 50 to 60 other people there, some of whom had won a contest to be there and others who were friends and family of the cast and the creators. To get up to the studio, they had us enter a freight elevator, which took us upstairs. We were taken to a room with about six rows of lawn-chair seats, all with headphones on them. In front of us was a slightly raised platform with five microphones. Around 7 p.m. , John McDaniel , the music supervisor for the show, came out to talk to us about how this would work. He told us that the performers would be singing into the microphones, and the orchestra was playing in a separate room, and that to hear everything, we'd have to put on the headphones. He also told us that this was the first Broadway album to be recorded in front of a live audience. We were allowed to cheer, clap and laugh for the CD, so it sounded like they had recorded this in the theater. He then called the performers in, everyone clapped, and they began recording the CD. The cast went through all of the songs and some of the dialogue for the CD, and did as good as -- if not a better -- job than they had at the show. Once again, Espinosa and Keller showed that they are two Broadway stars to watch, and Cleavant Derricks, who is a previous Tony Award winner for "Dreamgirls," did an amazing job as well. The other two stars, Karen Olivo and Kevin Anderson, also gave amazing performances. When the night ended, I was in awe of what I had just seen and I knew that I wanted to go back to see " Brooklyn " again. This truly was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I owe my thanks to Calhoun for making it happen. Go see " Brooklyn ," the best thing on Broadway besides "Rent." And if you can, buy the cast recording of " Brooklyn " -- you'll be sure to hear my laughing and cheering. Matt Richards, 17, is a senior. from the Home News Tribune Published on November 11, 2004

Review: Brooklyn The Musical - what can I say except fabulous!!! The best voices on Broadway with acting to match telling a story that touches the heart. This musical is fresh, innovative and full of emotion. I laughed, I cried and truly felt each character's passion. Brooklyn gives you everything; a smorgasborg of theatre at its best - the set, the lighting, the costumes all enhance the writers' story with songs that move your soul. Jeff Calhoun 's direction is brilliant as are the actors who tell this story. Brooklyn The Musical is Broadway's newest sensation. Treat yourself to its wonder; feed yourself on its magic. It's a feast of creativity and talent that should not be missed.

Where they found out about Brooklyn : In an article about Eden Espinosa

Review: I saw the show on the Friday after opening night. It was one of the most wonderful theater experiences my wife and I have had. I happen to be a fan of Ms. Espinosa after seeing her play Elphelba in Wicked, however her performance in Brooklyn far eclipsed her Great performance in Wicked. When she and Mr. Derricks performed "Streetsinger" I wanted to leap to my feet in appreciation and awe. It was, in a word INCREDIBLE. The show has wonderful, original music, is very clever, and most importantly has HEART. I hope it runs forever, and am already looking forward to seeing it again.
